COVID-19’s Impact/Our Response
India has been hit hard by the pandemic, with over 36 million cases, resulting in close to half a million deaths.
Karnataka state alone, where Cross Roads for Human Development’s projects are based, has seen 3.1 million cases so far. In line with the national and state government guidelines, all educational institutions and non-essential businesses were closed down for eighteen months in 2020. This included our school, Kids Paradise, which switched to online learning before returning recently to in-person learning. Classes at the Nutan Tailoring Centre have also resumed. Unfortunately, we have had to close down our second Tailoring Centre permanently.
We wanted to help some of the residents of Turukanadoni village, and the nearby city of Raichur, as many were unable to earn due to the national lockdown in 2020/2021. Thanks to our donors, we were able to supply families with non-perishable foodstuffs, such as rice, wheat, flour, dried lentils, sugar and coffee.
